Efforts Continue to Block Opening of Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge

The Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge is scheduled to open to the public this Saturday. This is despite ongoing legal challenges to the US Fish and Wildlife Service over their decision to allow members of the public to access parts of the site of the former nuclear weapons plant.

A coalition of groups opposed to the opening of the site will gather at the EPA headquarters at Wynkoop and 15th in Denver’s LoDo district, at 1pm on Saturday to protest the site. Congressman Jared Polis, a Democrat from Boulder, has written to Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, to ask him to delay the opening of the refuge until next year to allow for further testing.

We hear from Randall Weiner, an environmental attorney representing the plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the US Fish and Wildlife Service over its decision to open the Rocky Flats Refuge, Brittany Gutermuth, from the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center and Michelle Gabrieloff-Parish, founder of Candelas Glows.
