In this episode, Pedro Silva joins KGNU’s Rossana Longo to talk about what he calls “the story of stories” the idea that our stories don’t need to compete, and that they carry the most power when we embrace their full complexity.
Pedro has lived many lives—Air Force veteran, pastor, community organizer, and now Director of Engagement at YOUnify. Growing up in a multiethnic household, he learned early on what it means to navigate identity in the Americas, and how to claim a story of his own.
He reflects on the pressure many communities face to choose sides, or to be defined only by the color of their skin. Instead, Pedro chose to live his own narrative. And part of that journey has been finding laughter. “You can only laugh at what you’ve already processed,” he says. “Comedy is tragedy plus time. That’s how we heal, that’s how humans function.”
From honoring the history of Black communities to imagining a brighter, more inclusive future, Pedro brings a vision of resilience and joy, even in the face of painful realities. He also shares details on his upcoming comedy event at CU on September 11, aimed at sparking conversation about the climate crisis and the choices before us.
Pedro leaves us with a call to action: to laugh, to heal, and to keep investing in our BIPOC communities—and in a future where choice and belonging are truly possible.
