Climate Change Symposium

On August 12th through 14th, Boulder’s Shambala Center will host a weekend-long event called Living beyond Hope and Fear about climate change.  KGNU’s Kendra Kruger spoke with  Emily Keeling Takahashi, co chair of this weekend’s  program, and Melanie Klein, the Executive Director of the Shambala Center.

As part of the weekend long event,  Emily Keeling Takahashi will perform  solo piano works by Bach, Mozart, Schubert and Chopin during a concert tribute to her father, climate scientist Charles Keeling. Charles David Keeling’s recording of global carbon dioxide levels, known as the Keeling Curve, first alerted the world to the possibility of anthropogenic contribution to climate change.

Speakers will lead discussions about the climate change issue and how “hope and fear impacts effective action.” There will be a focus on connecting with the natural world and creating sustainable communities.
