Sensi: The Times They are a Changing – Girls Scout Cookies and Cannabis

At this time last year, the Girl Scouts of America was mounting a well-publicized assault against marijuana businesses that sold strains called Girl Scout Cookies. They were successful in many places. The strain is now called GSC, or Gurl Scout cookies.

Leland Rucker, the senior editor at Sensi magazine reports that the Girls Scouts of America have eased their opposition to the cannabis industry when it comes to cookies sales.

“We’re all familiar this time of year with the young entrepreneurs of the Girl Scouts, whether coming to your desk at work and setting up shop all around the neighborhood to fill our annual need for Samoas, Tagalongs and S’mores. It’s been going on since 1917.”

Girl Scouts of Colorado this year updated its policy for the 2018 cookie season to treat “adult-oriented” businesses such as marijuana dispensaries the same as any other business, council spokeswoman AnneMarie Harper told The Denver Post that all proposals for sales at any site, including adult-oriented sites, must be approved by the organization.

Until this year, Girl Scouts of Colorado’s policy only allowed them near “family-oriented” businesses and forbade sales outside adult-oriented businesses such as liquor stores, casinos or marijuana dispensaries.

“This is definitely a positive development. It means that as the new normal continues to roll out, and as people understand that dispensary customers are all ages, shapes and sizes, no different from anyone who visits a grocery stores or department store where GSA booths are set up. And it suggests that the organization is more concerned with locations, distances from roadways rather than what businesses are around. I couldn’t agree more.”

In other cannabis news, Rucker fills us in on a new strain that is being developed in honor of Attorney General Jeff Sessions who has drawn the ire of the cannabis industry saying he was clamping down on marijuana even in states where it is legal.

“Medicine Man is a pretty well known dispensary chain around these parts, and the company has developed a new strain, an 80/20 sativa heavy hybrid of Jet Fuel and Bio Diesel called Jeff Sesh-ons. Though some wondered whether it might get the dispensary undue attention from the attorney general, Jeff Sesh-ons is available only at Medicine Man’s Denver location. A company spokesman said it gives users a strong head high with an energetic buzz. Kind of like Mr. Sessions. Once it’s out of stock, it’s gone for good.”
