August 17th would have been the 90th birthday of Reb Zalman, or Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, who was one of the founders of the Jewish Renewal movement and an innovator in ecumenical dialogue. Reb Zalman died last month, so he didn’t live to see the birthday party that was being planned for him in Boulder where he lived. This Sunday instead, there will be a celebration of his life and his work. KGNU’s Miriam Schiff spoke with Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, founding Rabbi of Nevei Kodesh, Boulder’s Jewish Renewal Congregation. She is organizing the “Heart as Big as the World” event happening at the Boulder Theater on August 17th.
