Reiner Braun: Prospects for Peace

“We need much more contact and networking between the different peace groups [and] the social movement in the world. And this is one of the reasons I’m coming to the [United] States to discuss with friends and colleagues about these big challenges we are facing.” -Reiner Braun, International Peace Bureau.

Reiner Braun is an internationally renowned German peace activist and author. He currently serves as a Co-President of the International Peace Bureau.

“This policy of militarism is connected to a politics of confrontation; about war between NATO and Russia, but also between the U.S. and China. No problem in the world can be solved by confrontation of politics. We need dialogue, negotiations, and contact between the governments and also the people.”

Mr. Braun will discuss the growing militarization around the world and the deterioration of relations between the various countries. He will also discuss how the governments and citizens can begin to improve relations and move towards peace.

Mr. Braun has also worked at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin and for the Max Planck Society, as the Executive Director of the International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms Germany, and as the Executive Director for the Vereinigung Deutscher Wissenschaftler (VDW), the German Pugwash group. The Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs is an international organization bringing together scholars and public figures working towards reducing the danger of armed conflict and seeking solutions to global security threats.
