Sister Sadie, the Grammy-nominated, award-winning bluegrass band, joined Meredith Carson live in KGNU’s Cabaret Studios to share music from their new album All Will Be and talk about their Colorado tour. The group performed several songs and an original instrumental, discussed their IBMA nominations, and reflected on their busy touring schedule, including opening for the SteelDrivers at Mishawaka. They also shared how fans can connect with them online and expressed gratitude for the support of their audiences and community radio. (Studio Session: 8/22/25)
Meredith Carson: And we have in the Cabaret studios, ready to go on the air for us, the fabulous Sister Sadie—a six-woman bluegrass band. They have all kinds of accomplishments: they are the reigning IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, the reigning IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year, and they are Grammy-nominated. We’ll talk about their brand-new CD and their gigs in Colorado.
Welcome to the KGNU studio, ladies.
Sister Sadie: Thank you. Thanks for having us.
Meredith Carson: Maybe a little closer to the mics when you’re talking.
Sister Sadie: Yes, ma’am.
Meredith Carson: Thanks for having us. There you go. Oh, you are so welcome. There is another woman involved with this band—their sound person is a woman, and she’s having a well-deserved little time out.
Sister Sadie: She works harder than any of us, actually. So we gave her the morning off.
Meredith Carson: Excellent idea. Before [00:01:00] we talk about anything else, can we have maybe a couple of tunes right in a row?
Sister Sadie: Let’s do it. We’re gonna do this first one, a Nanci Griffith tune that we love so much. It’s on our new record.
(Song performance: “When the Diamonds Fall”)
Sister Sadie: All right, let’s do “Prodigal Daughter,” you guys.
(Song performance: “Prodigal Daughter”)
Meredith Carson: Sister Sadie live in the studios on KGNU’s Morning Sound Alternative. Ladies, I am loving this so much. So—you all have a brand-new CD out. It came out in June?
Sister Sadie: The end of June, yes ma’am.
Meredith Carson: Fabulous. And it is called All Will Be. Are these two songs that you sang on the record?
Sister Sadie: Yes, ma’am. They’re both on the record.
Meredith Carson: Please don’t call me ma’am—I’m old enough to be your great-grandmother!
Sister Sadie: I’m from Tennessee, so it’s in me.
Meredith Carson: Well, I understand that. I was raised up in Texas. So, you know, I get it. But still—those songs are both on the new record. And you’ll be playing several gigs in Colorado, I understand?
Sister Sadie: Yes. Great for us, bad for you, but our shows tonight and tomorrow are sold out. We’re opening for the SteelDrivers tonight and tomorrow at Mishawaka, and we’re excited.
Meredith Carson: Do you have other shows you want to talk about?
Sister Sadie: We played in Denver two nights ago, last night we were in Colorado Springs, and then we have the two nights—tonight and tomorrow night. Then we’re heading home.
Meredith Carson: So Colorado was last on your stop list?
Sister Sadie: Yes, tonight and tomorrow.
Meredith Carson: Very cool. People can always call Mishawaka and see if anyone has turned in tickets. But so fun for you guys—and the SteelDrivers are such a great band.
Sister Sadie: Yeah, they’re great friends. I’ve known those guys my whole life, so it’s gonna be a fun night.
Meredith Carson: Maybe give us another tune?
Sister Sadie: Sure. We’re gonna do an instrumental. These ladies can sing, but they can also play. This is an instrumental that our banjo player, Gina Britt, wrote. It’s called Raleigh’s Ride.
(Instrumental performance: “Raleigh’s Ride”)
Meredith Carson: Sister Sadie live in our Cabaret studios! You won two IBMA awards last year, and this year you were nominated for eleven IBMA awards?
Sister Sadie: Are we?
Meredith Carson: That’s what it says on your website—I’m not sure.
Sister Sadie: Well, I think there are only six of us. But we’re excited to get out there and host—it’s the first year in Chattanooga for the awards and the convention. So we’re excited to be part of it.
Meredith Carson: Yeah, that’s in September. And then I noticed you’re coming back to New Mexico?
Sister Sadie: Yes—New Mexico, Phoenix, and Oklahoma, I believe.
Meredith Carson: Excellent. You are busy. We appreciate you being here. I’m so happy that you all came in this morning on a gig day. It means a lot to us. How can people get a hold of you and find out about you?
Sister Sadie: They can follow us on all the socials—Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and all the things. Also, there’s our website: sistersadieband.com.
Meredith Carson: You’ve got one more for us, then we’ll let you go lie down before your gig tonight.
Sister Sadie: All right.
(Song performance: “Little Bird”)
Meredith Carson: [00:14:00] Sister Sadie live in KGNU’s Cabaret Studios. Ladies, you have made my day. This was so much fun to have you in.
Sister Sadie: Thank you so much. We appreciate it.
Meredith Carson: You’re so welcome. Please come by every time you’re passing through. We’d love to have you back. This was just great—thanks so much for coming by.
Sister Sadie: Thank you.
