“Mosque” – Family Drama Confronts Divisions, Connects Through Love

“Mosque” is a landmark play currently produced in collaboration between the Black Actor’s Guild and Emancipation Theater Company, now playing at the People’s Building in Aurora at both 2:30 and 7:30 on Saturday and Sunday through June 2nd. At it’s heart, “Mosque” explores the relationship between a Palestinian American son and his father who run a shop in Harlem, New York in 2010, at the time that the Ground Zero Mosque was the latest fodder for islamaphobia and anti-Arab sentiment in the United States. For Playwright Jihad Milhelm, Mosque is in some ways a personal exploration of his own upbringing as a Palestinian American in Columbus Ohio, and his way to create opportunities to give voice to this often stereotyped and overlooked group who have their own unique American Experience.
