How Johnny Nichols Jr. and the Denver Gay Mens Chorus are Spreading Queer Joy This Holiday Season Abby O'Brien

This holiday season, we’re highlighting stories of community members finding ways to spread joy and love to others. Johnny Nichols Jr. is the artistic and managing director of the Denver Gay Mens Chorus. He spoke to KGNU about how he and his organization are using music and the performing arts to spread festive, queer joy.

“We are being erased by the current administration,” said Nichols Jr. “We are being made to be the enemy of the public or having false narratives spoken against us. This is the time of all the times to really show the world that we are not the enemy of the public. We are kind, we are loving, we are accepting, we are fun, we are fabulous.”

You can see My Favorite Queens Dec. 5-7 in Denver, Dec. 12 in Boulder, and Dec. 14 in Highlands Ranch. Tickets and more information here.

This story is part of a series on the Morning Magazine about community members spreading joy during the holidays. The Morning Magazine is KGNU’s weekday morning show featuring in-depth discussions on local news issues. Click here to listen to other episodes of the Morning Magazine.
