On today’s Morning Magazine, we learn how the public library system is still bringing free programming and community gathering opportunities to families at a time when entertainment budgets are being squeezed or are nonexistent.

Libraries are one of the few “third spaces” we have– a space that’s not work, and it’s not home– and unlike going and sitting in a coffee shop or taking your family to a movie theater, it costs you nothing extra to go.

Public Libraries still offer ways for families of all income levels to get offline, get out into the community and have enriching experiences.

KGNU’s Abby O’Brien asked the Boulder Library’s Youth Services Programming Specialist, Melanie Borski Howard, and Canyon Theater Administrator Amy Campion about what the library provides beyond books.
