Junie Joseph got the state to rename a portion of Hwy 36 as Martin Luther King Highway, honoring “Let freedom ring from the Rockies” Alexis Kenyon

In this special edition of Black Talk, host Michele Simpson interviews NAACP members Ms. Madelyn Woodley, Minister Glenda Strong Robinson, and State Rep. Junie Joseph about their efforts to rename a portion of US Hwy 36 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Rep. Joseph, in partnership with the NAACP, led the successful passage of House Joint Resolution 24-1003, which officially renamed the highway earlier this year.  On today’s Black Talk, we hear about the significance of this milestone and its connection to the ongoing fight for justice and equality.

Boulder will celebrate the redesignation with a free community event—Thursday (08/24) at 5:30 p.m. at the Dairy Arts Center.

The event marks the installation of signs between mile markers 32 and 37. The signs commemorate Dr. King’s call to “let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado.”

Notable event attendees/speakers:

•Wilma Webb – Keynote speaker and former Colorado legislator, founder of the MLK Colorado Holiday Commission.
