Kicking the habit: Changing America’s Drug Policy

More and more states are changing their laws regarding marijuana. Many states allow medical marijuana and 2016 will see several states have ballot measures lifting prohibition on recreational marijuana. Sanho Tree, a Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and director of its Drug Policy Project, says that Colorado is leading the way in the legalization of marijuana. Tree says the domestic and international “War on Drugs” should be replaced with policies that promote public health and safety. He says current domestic politics on drugs have lead to the United States exporting its failed drug war to Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, Afghanistan and other countries.

Sanho Tree spoke at CU Boulder on “Kicking the Habit: Drug Policy Reform in the U.S. and Around the World,” on Wednesday January 21st.
