Breaking News – Initiative 97 qualifies for the ballot

Initiative 97, the state wide ballot measure that would increase set backs for new oil and gas development has qualified for the November ballot.

Getting the measure to the ballot has been a challenge for Colorado Rising, the organizers behind initiative 97. They say the oil and gas industry paid people to harass volunteers who were gathering signatures.

That was followed by a fight with the Oregon based company it paid to help gather signatures. Ultimately the firm returned the 15,000 signatures it had taken from the campaign.

Now that it will be on the ballot, the grass roots campaign will face a well funded opposition from the oil and gas industry.  The measure will appear as Proposition 112 on the ballot.
