Local Dance Program Aims To Slow Progression of Degenerative Diseases

April is Parkinson’s Month. Parkinson’s Foundation estimates that nearly one million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson’s disease which is more than the combined number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is expected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030.

Two local dancers Lisa Johnston and Elisa Garcia with 3RD Law Dance/Theater have been providing virtual English and Spanish Dancing classes for people affected by degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s.

KGNU Rossana Longo-Better interviewed Johnston and Garcia who discussed the way dance can heal conditions in the body and slow the progression of degenerative diseases.
