Hundreds of people gathered Saturday afternoon in front of Sol Tribe Tattoo on 1st and Broadway in Denver, site of the murder of Alicia Cardenas and Alyssa Gunn-Maldonado on December 27th. The space was the start of a series of murderous attacks that ended in Lakewood. Five people died at the hands of a man who alluded to the murders in writing beforehand in a series of self-published books.
The community gathered to participate in an Indigenous ceremony to heal people suffering from grief. Dance, singing, drumming, and burnt offerings set the stage for a procession around the block, led by children of the community. KGNU’s Dave Ashton was there and he shares this audio.
