OutSources: What To Do About Attacks on Trans and NonBinary People?

Dr. Glenda Russell, former OutSources collective member, psychologist, activist, writer and researcher, interviews Zakary Clements, M.S,. a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kentucky.

Zak is one of the Executive Producers of a short documentary Becoming Myself: Positive Trans and Nonbinary Identities.

Zak and Glenda discuss the large number of laws being introduced by state legislators across the US attacking trans, nonbinary and gender expansive youth and adults.

Zak explains the important value of gender affirming care to trans youth. He describes key research showing a 73% decrease in suicidal ideation rates with gender affirming care provided to trans, nonbinary, gender expansive youth. Zak shares a variety of research about what trans and nonbinary individuals can do to cope in the short and long term. Zak and Glenda delve into both individual and group resilience factors. They discuss what cisgender people can do to be supportive during this hazardous time.
