Studio Session: The Goodies

The Goodies stopped by the KGNU studio ahead of their show at Oscar Blues in Lyons for an upbeat acoustic session and conversation with Dave McIntyre. The Southern California-based reggae-influenced group performed a lively medley featuring their cover of “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes, along with their original song “Goody Vibes.” The band also talked about life on the road, reconnecting with Colorado, hiking the Front Range, and a recent musical getaway to Jamaica. Known for blending songs and creating an energetic, positive atmosphere, The Goodies shared plenty of laughs and good vibes throughout the session. (Air Date 5/1/2026)

Transcript:

Dave McIntyre: Right now in the studio with us, we have The Goodies.

The Goodies: Hey!

Dave McIntyre: Hey, and good morning from The Goodies. Let me make sure I’m getting you.

The Goodies: Check two. Hello, hello.

Dave McIntyre: Great. They’re going to be at Oscar Blues tonight in Lyons starting at 7:00, putting on a whale of a show as usual, and they agreed to come in and do a couple tunes for you acoustically this afternoon.

The Goodies: We just like hanging out with you, so we’re happy to be here. Get a little one-on-one time with you.

Dave McIntyre: It’s fun. We don’t see you often enough. Based out of San Diego these days.

The Goodies: Yes, we are. We’re based out of Southern California. We’ve actually been in Orange County for the last year, so it’s kind of our Cali reggae stomping grounds out there.

Dave McIntyre: And what are you going to play for us this morning?

The Goodies: We know that you love our cover of “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes, so we’re going to do that one, and then we’re going to do our “Goody Vibes” song, which is kind of like our theme song. It’s a little taste of what we’ll be doing tonight, and we’re really excited to be back at Oscar Blues in Lyons. It’s always a great time every time we roll through.

Dave McIntyre: Always fun to have you there. These guys put out a great positive vibe when they play their music, and it’s contagious.

The Goodies: Gotta get your dancing shoes on, because we’re going to be moving around a lot.

Dave McIntyre: That’s always fun. Dancing is great.

The Goodies: Get your cardio tonight.

Dave McIntyre: So take it away.

“What’s Up” / “Don’t Worry Be Happy” medley performed

Dave McIntyre: Nice. See, that’s what they do. They switch from one song to another song in the middle of a song and you’re wondering, “What the—oh, how nice.”

The Goodies: That’s what we like to do. We like surprises. We want to keep you guessing.

Dave McIntyre: That’s always fun.

The Goodies: I love that song. The drummer of the original 4 Non Blondes reached out to me on Facebook because we had recorded and released that version of “What’s Up.” It’s on Spotify and all that. She said, “I just love, love, love that version that you guys put out.”

Dave McIntyre: Nice. That’s a huge compliment. A lot of people do that song, and it’s so much fun live.

The Goodies: I can’t wait to sing it tonight.

Dave McIntyre: You’re doing a little visit. Mom lives in Lyons, so you get some time to get off the road and kick back a little bit. How’s that been?

The Goodies: We’re totally enjoying the Colorado life and the Colorado mountains. We hiked Sanitas the other day and the Peoples Trail. I’m really enjoying hiking. I’m a California girl, and we have lots of hiking, but it just feels different here. It’s beautiful. We miss the snow, but we barely caught a little bit when we got here.

Dave McIntyre: We sure miss it too. It’s been dry as heck around here. These guys will be starting at 7:00 and going till about 10:00 tonight. It’s a free show, so come on down and have some fun. You got one more for us?

The Goodies: Yeah, we’ve got one more to close it out. We’re really excited to see everybody tonight. This is our theme song. It’s called “Goody Vibes.”

“Goody Vibes” medley performed

Dave McIntyre: See there? They did it again.

The Goodies: That’s what we do.

Dave McIntyre: It’s all about those goodie vibes. Thanks so much for coming up here this morning.

The Goodies: Thanks so much for having us.

Dave McIntyre: I know it’s early on a gig night, but we appreciate you.

The Goodies: The fun has just gotten us out of bed early.

Dave McIntyre: Come out and see The Goodies tonight, folks. You’ll have some other players with you tonight as well.

The Goodies: We’ve got the full band going tonight. We’ve got some really cool merch, and it’s family vibes. We’re just going to have a good time. My mom’s going to be there, and we’re going to dance and sing. Lots of hugs and stuff.

Dave McIntyre: Mom always has a good time too. She’s right up front, riding the rails.

So I know Justin’s been to Jamaica. Have you, Sarah?

The Goodies: I have been, only once. He actually took me about a year ago. We got invited to play a yoga retreat in Montego Bay by good friends. We played two days there, and afterward we went to Negril and had a little getaway on the cliffs, catching falling stars. It was one of the most beautiful little adventures.

Dave McIntyre: Nice.

The Goodies: He got to show me all the ropes. We were jumping off cliffs and stuff.

Dave McIntyre: A friend of mine recently moved to Jamaica, and he’s having a blast.

The Goodies: We can’t wait to get back. We’ll probably go again in the fall.

Dave McIntyre: That’s what I’m thinking too. Go pay him a visit.

Well again, folks, come and see these guys tonight. You’ll enjoy yourself, I guarantee it. It’s always a fun time when The Goodies are in town.

The Goodies: Thanks so much for having us.

Dave McIntyre: You bet. Love you, Dad. See you later. See you tonight. For those who don’t realize the connection, I do work at Oscar Blues, and that’s one of the reasons we’ll have The Goodies there tonight. Thanks again, guys.

The Goodies: Thank you so much.

Dave McIntyre: We’ll see you tonight.

The Goodies: See you later.
