KGNU’s Verity Matthews and Don Davis bring us reports from actions against the Trump administration this past weekend. Matthews reports on a press conference on Friday afternoon in Denver, and Davis from a demonstration in Boulder on Saturday.

Since Trump’s second term began 13 months ago, the United States has experienced a coordinated campaign to end our 250 year old experiment in Democracy, replacing it with one man rule by President Donald J. Trump, and a broad resistance movement of people individually and in groups large and small, are speaking, marching, gathering in protests and organizing to protect their neighbors and communities from raids by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).

In a “Stand With Us Against ICE” press conference Friday, community leaders gathered at the state capitol to express solidarity and to demand dignity, safety, and unity for all Coloradans. Attendees and speakers included elected officials and hopefuls, to creatives and indigenous leaders, and community organizers. We’ll hear from Nita Gonzáles, daughter of Corky Gonzales, and Chicana activist and candidate for Colorado House District 9 Neal Walia.

On Saturday, community members gathered outside the Boulder Home Depot to protest the company’s partnership with surveillance firm Flock Safety, following reports that the vendor’s data has been used in Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations and raids in Home Depot parking lots.

Thanks to reporters Verity Matthews, Don Davis, and Rhonda Davis, and producer Joel Edelstein for this week’s Voices of the Resistance. Tune into the Morning Magazine on Thursdays for the Resistance Calendar, a list of upcoming protests and demonstrations.
