Last week, University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor Justin Schwartz gave his State of the Campus address to an audience of 1,650 CU affiliates. KGNU’s Ryan Bigham was there, and he told us what he heard.

Bigham said Schwartz announced a new team charged with developing a campus-wide process to gather the CU community’s next big ideas.

Schwartz said, “This call for ideas is deliberately broad and open-ended.”

Schwartz did touch on the student housing shortage. He mentioned a new student housing project on Colorado Avenue, slated to open in Fall 2028.

The speech also touched on cultural understanding, artificial intelligence and sustainability. The university turns 150 this year, and Schwartz also said he wants to make an effort to recognize those who have shaped CU’s history without recognition.

“We have neglected many of our communities and ignored valuable perspectives. We want to uncover the forgotten people and truths of our past,” said Schwartz.
