The layoffs come a year after the company laid off about 185 employees and shut down the majority of its operations in Longmont. The Colorado Bioscience Association told the Camera that they would, quote, “work closely with partners to retain these talented life sciences professionals and ensure … the future health and growth of life sciences [in Boulder].”

According to the Daily Camera, many of the laid-off employees are not covered by the union and will be let go November 15 of this year.

The Daily Camera received notice from the company’s compliance with the WARN act which orders companies to release pertinent and timely lay off information to employees.

Denver Student Rally at Capital

Dozens of high school students from across Denver rallied at the State Capitol Wednesday to call for stronger gun safety laws.

The demonstration was a response to the shooting at Evergreen High School last week that left two students injured. 17-year-old senior Avett Proctor was one of the speakers. She said growing up with the threat of school shootings has been exhausting.

“It is quite frustrating that this has happened again and again and again, and we are crying out and begging the world, essentially, to protect us,” she said.

Several Democratic state lawmakers also joined the Denver-area students on the Capitol steps. The rally was organized by local chapters of Students Demand Action. The national volunteer group advocates for stronger gun safety policies and gun violence prevention.

State Demography Office says it Needs 100k More Housing Units to Meet Demand

Colorado’s state demography office said in a report that the housing shortfall in the state is behind by 100,000 units.

The Colorado Newsline reports that number is down from numbers in 2019, who says 34,100 living spaces will need to be built year over year to keep up with demand that’s been growing after 2020.

According to Colorado Newsline, the state report had no conclusions at the type or price of housing that would aid the gap. Since the state’s 2023 conclusion on contemporary housing availability, the state has passed laws to streamline housing type efficiency, expand the availability of accessory dwelling units, incentivize housing around transit hubs, and reduce litigation risks for construction defect claims.

Though the efficacy of the laws is hard to analyze, the Newsline noted that the shortfall’s peak of a 140,000 home shortage in 2019 has since decreased due to slow population growth and expansion of housing projects overall.

Candidates can get their names on the ballot through either collecting enough signatures or winning enough support at the district caucuses and assembly.

James is currently unable to serve on committees as part of her duties as Regent because the Board of Regents voted to censure her connected with input she provided to Governor Polis on a Public Health Campaign regarding marijuana usage. That’s all according to Colorado Public Radio.
