Maaza Megniste left her homeland when she was four, yet she still has memories of the revolution that began in Ethiopia in 1974, a war that forms the backdrop of her debut novel published several years ago. She describes what triggered this bloody conflict, the family whose story is told and details some little known facts about the history of Ethiopia, one of the world’s oldest cultures.
