Adventurer and author Michael Benanav describes crossing the Sahara desert on a camel for nearly 40 days. Michael traveled on the back of a camel from Timbuktu to the salt mines deep in the Mali desert. He traveled eighteen hours daily in a camel caravan with men whose tribes have made this journey for salt — once worth its weight in gold — for many centuries.
