Where are the missing 43 Mexican students?

“We’re here to tell the world that the case of Ayotzinapa is not closed.”

On September 26th, 2014, 43 students a teacher training college in Ayotzinapa, Mexico, were detained by police and then handed over to a drug gang called Guerreros Unidos, which, according to the official government account, massacred them. Partial remains from at least one student were later found in a mass grave. But parents of the students question the official account and are touring the US as part of Caravana 43. The 3 different caravans will meet in New York on April 26th, 2015, the 7 month anniversary of the disappearance of the students.

Felipe de la Cruz, a spokesperson for Caravana 43 spoke in Longmont on Sunday April 12th. He says the US He is the father of one of the students who survived the attack. He says people in the US need to be aware of the connection between organized crime in Mexico and the US. De la Cruz points to the Merida Plan which allocated over $2.3 billion in US funds to Mexico since 2008. De la Cruz and other members of the Caravana 43 say this has lead to an increase in the militarization of police in Mexico which is targeting dissidents instead of drug cartels.
