Using Ecstasy to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

MDMA is better known as the street drug, “Ecstasy” or “Molly”.  Despite being illegal, MDMA is being studied as part of treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Both the federal Food and Drug Administration and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency have formally approved this study.   Boulder is one of the leading centers for research, and clients are generally in treatment for 6 months, with MDMA provided roughly once a month as part of the treatment.  Shelley Schlender talks with the principal investigator for Boulder’s MDMA study, Boulder psychotherapist Marcella Ot’alora.
