The Crisis in the Middle: The View from Lebanon

“The Arab uprisings opened up lots of opportunities for liberation and for getting rid of dictatorships, but it also seems to have opened the door for more foreign intervention, Islamic extremist and…regional proxy wars.”

David Barsamian speaks with Rayan al-Amin, visiting the US from Lebanon. He is Assistant Director of Assam Fares Institute at the American University of Beirut.

al-Amin says what we’ve seen as a result of incomplete revolutions in some areas or revolutions that have turned into civil wars like in Syria, is that they’ve opened the doors for regional proxy wars and the obvious international world power struggles.
