Ileana Barbu is a member of the Romanian American Freedom Alliance (RAFA), an all volunteer non profit charitable and cultural organization that is organizing the upcoming Taste of Romania festival happening June 25th and 26th in Boulder. She told KGNU’s Eugene Stan, also a member of RAFA, that this weekend’s festival is a way to engage the Romanian community in Colorado and Americans interested in learning about other cultures.
“I think it is very, very important for our children to see and to taste, literally and figuratively speaking, our Romanian culture, to experience it in action, not just what we tell them at home. Plus interacting with the American people during the festival is a powerful experience which enriches both our cultures, American and Romanian.”
The festival is the main fundraising event for RAFA which supports several non-profits in Romania and other Eastern Bloc countries. It is part of a year long celebration of local diverse immigrant communities, One Action 2016.
