Somatic Psychotherapist Speaks On The Art Of Healing Ceremonies

Our guest this morning is Monica King a Somatic Psychotherapist specializing in trauma and resilience from Naropa University. She learned from several indigenous traditions of healing from Mexico to Africa, blending both Western mental health perspectives and ancient healing modalities.

Known as la curandera, she integrates ancestral guidance, nutrition, herbal teas, energy work, and rites of passage in her group practices, is passionate to work with the BIPOC community, serves teens with issues of identity, family systems, and intergenerational trauma.

Monica King speaks with Rossana Longo-Better about her experience living in Boulder for the past 8 years and now as a teacher at Naropa University practicing the healing arts.

Storytellers of Color airs on the second Monday of each month as part of A Public Affair on KGNU. The major goal of the show is to provide a safe space for communicators of color, through a series of conversations, to elevate their voices and discuss issues of equality in the media. Recent gatherings of various working groups, including Latinx Voices and Journos of Color Network from Colorado News Collaborative inspire the show.

The Storytellers of Color series are a collaborative effort, with an open invitation to other storytellers to come into our airwaves, to tell their stories, and occupy the safe space we are providing every second Monday of the month.
