Programming Changes – AM and PM News

Program Schedule Interim Changes

Since the rescission of federal funding for public media last summer, content distributors, program producers, and Public Media stations across the country have been forced to adapt in many ways.

The latest shift for KGNU requires a schedule change that no longer makes BBC Newshour available for us to air from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, nor BBC Newsroom from 6:30 to 7:00 am.

To minimize the immediate impact to listeners, KGNU has developed an interim summer program schedule that shifts certain programs on our schedule to retain a version of the BBC’s live international, national news, and live headlines.  This interim summer schedule provides important time for KGNU to engage listeners over the rest of the summer to learn more about the programming you depend on and would like to hear, while exploring new options together.

Starting July 1, 2026, KGNU will begin to air an Interim Summer Program Schedule with a handful of changes.

There are two parts to the program changes: Morning and Afternoon.

The Morning schedule shifts BBC Newsroom, which will air live at 6:00 am, followed by 30 minutes of BBC Business Daily and Witness.  Moving BBC Newsroom live to 6:00 am will shift Linea Abierta to air 5:00 am – 6:00 am.  Restless Mornings would be reduced by 30 minutes, ending at 5:00 am.
5:00 am – 6:00 am Linea Abierta
6:00 am – 6:30 am Newsroom (live)
6:30 am – 7:00 am BBC Business Daily / Witness
No other morning changes
As for the afternoon.

BBC Newshour is no longer available for KGNU to air from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and the program does not easily fit into our schedule at 2:00 pm when the distributor makes it available.

During the interim period (now through the summer), KGNU will air the BBC Newsroom Live at 4:00 pm MT, shifting our current  4:00 to 5:00 pm syndicated block an hour later to 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, which includes:  The Ralph Nader Radio Hour, Reveal, Rising Up with Sonali, Project Censored, and Latino USA.

The BBC Newsroom is a 30-minute live national and international news program, much like Newshour, and opens a 30-minute slot from 4:30 – 5:00 pm, where we will be testing out a new program for KGNU, The Daily, produced by the New York Times, as past surveys have indicated a high level of interest from listeners in this program.

4:00 pm – 4:30 pm BBC Newsroom (live)
4:30 pm – 5:00 pm The Daily
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm The Ralph Nader Radio Hour, Reveal, Rising Up with Sonali, Project Censored, and Latino USA.

There will be no immediate changes to the current locally produced 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm programming.

This program schedule is INTERIM ONLY for the summer months – as the BBC has their own time shift in the Fall – while KGNU begins to explore additional programming options, possible alternatives, and surveys our listener-community to learn more about the programming that you want to hear on KGNU, and how we might best serve those broader interests with adjustments to the KGNU programming schedule with the highest quality content available.

We appreciate your understanding, engagement, and feedback as we begin to test longer-term schedule changes throughout the summer and into the fall.  We’ll be sending a more in depth survey towards the end of July.  Please feel free to Submit Your Initial Comments here.  Additional details, schedule changes, and feedback forms will be available on the KGNU.org website.
