KGNU Radio Week: May 19-25

We’re excited to announce the inaugural “KGNU Radio Week”, a citywide celebration of our station’s vibrant impact on local culture.

From May 19 to May 25, KGNU is presenting a series of engaging programs and events featuring iconic cultural partner organizations and locations throughout Boulder. 

This year’s Radio Week features a dynamic lineup of events, including live music performances, interactive workshops, special live broadcasts, community celebrations, and much more.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with station staff, learn about volunteer opportunities, learn about community-oriented cultural organizations and businesses, and learn how they can play a role in shaping the future of community radio.

KGNU Radio Week’s event lineup

  • Sunday, May 19 – Indigenous Mobile Recording Studio 3-5:30 pm, at KGNU’s Boulder Studios.  A free public workshop hosted by the Mobile Recording Studio for Indigenous musicians to record their creative work with industry professionals.

  • Tuesday, May 21 – The Vipers on Kabaret, Live from Roots Music Project | 6-9 pm – A live broadcast of KGNU’s live and local music program.  Doors / reception 6pm-7pm, live broadcast 7-8pm, with another set of music after the broadcast ends.

  • Wednesday, May 22 – KGNU Birthday Party: Station Tour and Reception | 9:30 am-noon – A celebration of  KGNU’s 46th birthday with coffee, cake, and conversation about community radio and how to get involved.

  • Thursday, May 23 – Live Afternoon Sound Alternative Broadcast from Paradise Found Records | noon-3pm – A live broadcast from Boulder’s iconic downtown record shop, featuring 2x Westword Best of Denver Radio DJ Iris Berkeley.

  • Thursday, May 23 – Destination Freedom: Black Radio Days Live Broadcast and Performance from the Canyon Theater at Boulder Public Library | 5-8:30pm – A reception and presentation of the Destination Freedom radio play series, where poignant narratives from the African-American community come to life. Free, with suggested donation. RSVP to guarantee your seats.

  • Friday, May 24 – Community Art Opening and Reception. A public art opening and reception, featuring artists from Boulder Open Studios, at KGNU’s Boulder Studios, 6-8 pm.

  • Saturday, May 25, 12-6 pmLive Broadcast from the Boulder Creek Festival. Broadcasting a section of KGNU’s legendary Saturday music programming from the Boulder Creek Fest, including TerraSonic, Reggae Bloodlines, and African Roots.
