“Say Her Name” Events Held Across Country Including Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO- “Why are you bringing the gay agenda into Black Lives Matter?” was one comment that was made to co-creater of the Black Lives Matter movement Alicia Garza.

On Tuesday August 25, 2015 Black Lives Matter-Bay Area joined with TGI Justice Project for a rally brining attention to the violence faced by black transwomen.  Across the country there were at least 14 other cities that held rallies and actions that aimed to address the violence faced by black and gender nonconforming women and girls on a daily basis.  Seventeen transwomen of color have been murdered in 2015.  Speakers mourned the loss of trans murder victims and urged steps to be taken to protect  trans people in the community.  Jeanetta Johnson, Bay Area Black Lives Matter member and director of Transgender/gender Variant Intersex Project started off the event.
