“In the Colorado area, because of agriculture and a variety of other concerns, trade disproportionately affects people in your area.”- Evan Greer, lead organizer of Rock Against The TPP.
Rock Against The TPP is a concert/political rally tour that begins in Denver this July to raise awareness of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is a trade agreement that has been negotiated in secret between twelve different countries with hundreds of corporate lobbyists, but no public input.
Evan Greer, lead organizer of Rock Against The TPP, is trying to make the public aware of the secret trade agreement and how it can affect them personally.
“The goal of the tour is to just tell more people about it. The biggest problem with the TPP, because of the extreme secrecy around the negotiations…there’s still a huge number of people who haven’t heard of it and don’t know what the problems with it are.”
Rock Against The TPP will serve also serve as a place for people to connect with the organizations fighting the TPP. Greer has been working with a number of local organizations with interests ranging from the environment to worker’s unions to internet freedom so concert goers have an opportunity to work locally on this issue.
“It is really a cross section of so many different movements, and I think that highlights the reality that TPP affects so many issues. So whatever it is that you are passionate about…the TPP is going to affect the issue you care about, and that’s why so many different groups are coming out of the woodwork to participate in this event.”
The Rock Against The TPP concert will be on Saturday, July 23rd at Summit Music Hall in Denver along with a Teach-In, hosted by actress Evangeline Lilly, held on Sunday, July 24th from 2-4 pm. Tickets are free but you must RSVP in advance at the Rock Against The TPP website.
Performers include Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Anti Flag, Flobots, Downtown Boys, Taina Asili, Ryan Harvey, Son of Nun, Lia Rose, and others.
