On the Aug.27 edition Morning Magazine, CEO Mardi Moore of the Boulder-based LGBTQ+ action group Rocky Mountain Equality (RMEQ) spoke on the influence of anti-gay marriage advocate James Dobson after his death.

Dobson founded the controversial Focus on the Family media initiative. Focus on the Family became headquartered in Colorado Springs in 1993 and has remained a contentious part of the Springs. The author of 70 books, Dobson had millions of listeners tuned into his radio and tv programs from the 70’s through today. The broadcasts featured his conservative christian advice for child-rearing and family values. Through the early 2000’s Dobson went political, spreading hate about the LGBTQ community and staunchly supporting anti-gay policy decisions.

Focus on the Family still operates in Colorado Springs. Their current president, Jim Daly has said marriage equality means the destruction of civilization (Human Rights Coalition).
