In an effort to amplify the work being done on the streets every single day by dedicated changemakers standing up for justice and speaking out against those in power who are attacking our friends and neighbors, we’re going to start posting a “Resistance Calendar” to our website on Thursdays.
Here are some of the events, actions, and protests happening in Colorado over the next seven days.
Thursday, 4/17:
What: National Day of Action for Higher Ed

When: Thurs., April 17
Where: Events and rallies happening virtually and in-person across Colorado.

- Metropolitan University of Denver: Rally to Defend Higher Education
- CSU Pueblo: AAUP Tabling and Discussion.

Why: Organizers say, “Today, public education at all levels is under attack. Politicians and right-wing organizations are pushing educational gag orders that prohibit the teaching of subjects, concepts and books in both higher education and K-12 schools. They are rolling back historic advancements in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The majority of jobs in higher education are now low-paying, part-time and precarious, rendering academic freedom and shared governance increasingly hollow. Students bear a crushing debt load that limits their future for decades. We stand against all these antidemocratic pressures in all their guises and on all educational levels.”

Ongoing Petitions:
What: Petitions to free Mahmoud Khalil
CAIR Action launched an Action Alert Form to make it easy for folks to contact their representative to demand support for Mahmoud Khalil: bit.ly/supportmahmoud
Why: Immigration agents with the Department of Homeland Security have detained Mahmoud Khalil, a leader of the Gaza solidarity encampment at Columbia University in New York. Khalil is an Algerian citizen of Palestinian descent, a green card holder and married to a U.S. citizen. His wife is eight months pregnant. Trump’s White House Press Secretary said that Khalil’s green card will be revoked and he will face deportation now for breaking the law, but for being “adversarial to the foreign policy of the United States.” Activists say the Trump administration is trying to make an example out of Khalil, to prevent others from using their free speech rights to speak out against the federal government’s decisions. These petitions let your House and Senate Reps, as well as other government officials, know you find this decision unjust and illegal and to demand their support in protecting him from deportation.

Link(s): https://protectmypublicmedia.org/urge-congress-email/
