Protestors continue to take to Denver’s streets to stand with immigrants

Organizers in Colorado are continuing to pick up steam in their fight against the Trump administration.

On Saturday, the Denver branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) organized a rally and march in the heart of the city, starting outside of the Capitol building. This “March Against Deportations” sought to make messages loud and clear to the federal government: that here in Colorado, we stand with immigrants. Many people brought up the powerful idea that none of us in the U.S. are really immigrants, since we live on stolen land.

Speakers included a DACA recipient, immigrants from Mexico, a local public school teacher, PSL leaders, and more. KGNU’s Greta Kerkhoff went down to the Capitol on Saturday, joined by KGNU’s News Director Jackie Sedley, and together they tried to gather a picture of the energy and goals of the protest.

Thousands showed up throughout the day, first filling up the hill in front of the Capitol and then flooding the city streets.

Here are some of the people who spoke at the protest.
