In this afternoon’s Metro show, we’re going to be talking about a controversy brewing at Denver’s North High School, where a popular Chicano teacher has been let go.
Tim Hernández began teaching during the pandemic and quickly won the respect of many colleagues, students and parents with his highly engaged, socially conscious methodology. Metro host Dave Ashton speaks with him in the program.
But first, but we hear from Gerardo Muñoz, a social studies teacher at Denver Center for International Studies at Baker in Denver Public Schools. He was also 2021’s Colorado Teacher of the Year. He spoke with News Director Shannon Young earlier this afternoon about how the pandemic changed teaching in general and within Denver Public Schools specifically.
