Peace Advocate Reflects On US And Nigerian Gun Violence

Every year the Boulder Council For International Visitors, a nonprofit leadership organization, hosts emerging leaders from around the globe to foster what they call “a network of mutual understanding and respect.”

The initiative works to spread practices of peaceful reconciliation throughout Northeastern Nigeria.

At a gathering in Chautauqua, Magem reflected on parallels between gun violence in the US and the psychology that drives Boko Haram’s violent extremism in northeastern Nigeria.
