This November, Colorado voters will weigh in on a proposed ban on hunting mountain lions, sparking a debate that reflects deeper divisions across the state.

KGNU’s Jackie Sedley co-hosted a statewide call-in show with KOTO’s (Telluride) Julia Caufield. The show was also broadcast on KSUT (Ignacio, southwest Colorado), KVNF (Paonia, Montrose, Delta), KBUT (Crested Butte and Gunnison County), and KHEN (Salida).

They explored the ballot measure at the heart of the mountain lion conversation, dove into the contrasting views on wildlife management and hunting, and examined how these issues can deepen the urban-rural divide in Colorado.

Crystal Chick joined KGNU’s Jackie Sedley in-studio. Chick spent 18 years with the Colorado Division of Wildlife/Colorado Parks and Wildlife, as a District Wildlife Manager for most of those years but spent a couple years serving as the Statewide Hunter Outreach Coordinator.

Vail Daily reporter Elliot Wenzler joined via Zoom.
