Libertarian candidate seeks party nomination in US Senate race

I do trust people who are very disenfranchised about this country, about two party ruling, that they will cross party lines, especially lots of people who are independents.

Lily Tang Williams was born in China and came to the US almost 30 years ago. She lives in Parker and she’s one of two candidates seeking the Libertarian party nomination to challenge US Senator Michael Bennet this November. Tang Williams says she is against big government, which she compares to a cancer that “will grow and spread and keep growing if we don’t stop it.”  She says The Affordable Care Act is another step towards socialist health care and she is against EPA heavy regulations around oil and gas extraction that she says are killing jobs and raising energy prices in the country.

Tang Williams says she is in favor of same sex marriage and against the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) “I love free trade and without opening up China to the world and to have trade, I probably would still be stuck in China…so I think truly peaceful free trade by the people would be great…TPP’s problem is that it is thousands of pages and secretly negotiated deals by corporate lawyers with high level US officials. And we were not part of the process to give input.”

Growing up in communist China has informed much of Tang Williams’ political beliefs “how many people have lived under socialism and communism before and will protect individual rights and freedom in Washington DC?”

As a third party candidate, Tang Williams says she recognizes the challenges that lie ahead given the current dominance of two parties in the political system.  “The challenge is huge, but regardless of my odds I want to give it my best shot.  I do trust people who are very disenfranchised about this country, about two party ruling, that they will cross party lines, especially lots of people who are independents.”
