Chris Koza w/ Julie Davis & Justin Lansing

April 27 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm MDT

Swallow Hill Presents Chris Koza w/ Julie Davis & Justin Lansing for a full night of music.
About Chris Koza
Composer / Performer Chris Koza is an internationally-recognized Americana artist. Chris has toured the US extensively, sharing the stage with Gordon Lightfoot, Brandi Carlile, Ingrid Michaelson, Andrew Bird, Stephen Kellogg, and many others. His song ,(Rogue Valley) The Wolves and the Ravens, was featured in Ben Stiller’s film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Chris embraces classic Americana with a contemporary feel while utilizing a wide range of textures in creating music rooted in acoustic guitar and storytelling. Subtle synthesizers, rich harmonies and pop-music sensibilities interweave with guitars, earthy pianos, and familiar rhythms. For every song that sounds like it could be strummed from a boxcar clacking slowly across a grassy midwestern plain, there’s a tune sailing from a city rooftop, echoing across a valley of streets and traffic, or a melody twisting and shimmering like a dim frequency deep into the starry night.

About Julie Davis
Julie Davis is a member of the enigmatic, otherworldly, and thoroughly affecting Colorado-based indie band called Bluebook. The ensemble features Julie Davis (upright bass, vocals, loops, lyrics), Jess Parsons (keyboards, vocals), Hayley Helmericks (drums, vocals), and Anna Morsett (guitar , vocals). Processed upright bass, light percussion, distant keyboards, and ethereal guitar combine to support a monumental approach to vocal harmony that conjures the ur-myth of the American Woman. Bluebook “loops rhythmic and melodic bass lines with synth noise to create folk music rooted in blues, gospel and even darkwave….offer up aching harmonies, using bare-bones instrumentation to support their songs” (The Westword, Kyle Harris).

About Justin Lansing
Denver’s own Justin Lansing is half of the Grammy-winning songwriting duo The Okee Dokee Brothers whose albums of family music continue to receive the highestaccolades and have delighted children and adults alike for many years. Finally stepping out as a solo artist, Justin embraces the Americana aesthetic that his songwriting is widely known for, while venturing beyond familiar tropes. On this fresh set of material, introspective subject matter coalesces with thoughtful lyrics and snappy melodies, marking an exciting shift for Justin as he refuses to sit still in pursuit of his artistry and craft of fine songwriting. Justin is currently strumming away in his basement studio, hard at work on this debut collection of music that he dubs “Basement Folk”.Justin is currently strumming away in his basement studio hard at work on this debut collection of music what he dubs “Basement Folk.”
