When was the last time you had a conversation with someone you fundamentally disagreed with? An intentional, sit-down conversation – not necessarily trying to argue your side, but discussing your differing perspectives?
There’s a new series in Boulder that seeks to do just that.
The Conversation is a 4-part play series that addresses topics considered “difficult, provocative and controversial, with constituents holding strong conflicting views.”
It’s a blend of immersive theater and a live community event where everyone has a say, with the goal to host open dialogue and start on a path to healing. First a play, followed by a post-show discussion.
Each of the 4 plays in the series grapples with a different topic of contention:
- The Israeli Palestinian Conflict Conversation
- The Immigration Conversation
- The Abortion Conversation
- The Emotional Impact of Politics Conversation
The event is co-presented by The Center for Humanities & The Arts at CU Boulder, and is inspired by their Difficult Dialogues series.
KGNU’s Jackie Sedley spoke with three individuals involved in the project, about the commitment they have to hosting these difficult yet, in their words, necessary conversations.
Ami Dayan is a castmember and the playwright. Dr. Reema Wahdan is director of the Colorado Palestine Club and does humanitarian work for the Palestinian Children Relief Fund. Dr Wahdan will serve on the post-show discussion after the production. Also in the conversation is Glenn Webb, program director at The Dairy Arts Center.
The first person you’ll hear from in our conversation, after Sedley, is Ami Dayan.
