Homelessness in Denver – Public Affair by DPS & MSU Interns

This Summer of 2023, Media Gardens collaborated with Denver Public School’s Career and College Success Launch Program to teach interns to produce essential music and news content for KGNU Community Radio. One of the primary tasks for the interns was to work as a team to produce a Public Affair on a relevant topic of their choosing. The interns chose to cover homelessness in Denver, focusing especially on its causes. Thank you to DPS intern, Sophie Songbird, and her supervisor, Jason Medrano, who participated in interviews about their work at The Gathering Place. Thank you to Brandon Poppino, Denver Human Services homeless shelter site lead, for also participating in an interview. For additional perspectives on the matter, the interns gathered vox pops from the general public on 16th street in downtown Denver.

KGNU intern from Metropolitan State University, Jinx Wilson, and KGNU interns from Denver Public Schools, Jair Ramirez, Azzan Booker, and Jason Wright, worked with Co-Supervisors from KGNU, Dave Ashton and Martín Better Longo, to produce this Public Affair on Homelessness in Denver.
