Weed Between The Lines: Hemp Industry Growing Pains

Leland Rucker writes the Weed Between the Lines column in the Boulder Weekly. Last week’s column looked at the emerging hemp industry, this week we talk to Leland about another state that is experiencing growing pains with its new hemp industry. The state of Kentucky has allowed the cultivation of hemp, but last week DEA agents seized 250lbs of hemp seeds at the Louisville airport. As of Tuesday, The Kentucky state agriculture department, had registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration to import controlled substances and is now in the process of getting a permit for the hemp seeds. And they’re hoping the DEA will release them today so farmers can get them planted by June 1st.
