Art and Language Arts teachers asked students to set, create, and photograph scenes of sustainability in action including one or more students dressed in a green suit – and then to write a description of up to 150 words for each photo describing how the photo relates to one of the five sustainability themes. The collaborators were especially interested in how the themes affect people socially and culturally.

Jesse, Michael and a third student Charley Sagrillo produced the photograph that won the James Balog award at the exhibit. The used a drone to capture an entire solar field from a bird’s eye perspective with Jesse in the midst of it dressed in a green suit. Their photo is called Keeping It Green, from a Bird’s Perspective.

Students from six BVSD secondary schools participated in the project and 80 photos will be on display from April 6th at NCAR.

Green Suits: Sustainability in Action in and around BVSD is the resulting exhibit of 80 student photographs selected by a jury of professional photographers and sustainability experts on display April 6 – September 30, 2019 at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (1850 Table Mesa Dr, Boulder, CO 80305).
