On Tuesday, in front of a crowd of riders and media watching at RTD’s Broomfield Park-n-Ride station, a group of local government figures and RTD officials cut the ribbon on RTD’s new Flatiron Flyer Bus rapid transit. The new bus service will provide a rapid transit bus system from Denver to Boulder, mostly traveling along U.S. 36. The service officially launches on January 17.
When fully implemented, the buses will, connect Denver and Boulder with stops at McCaslin, Flatirons Mall, Broomfield, Church Ranch, and Sheridan along the way. The new buses are an upgrade from the current RTD fleet, providing amenities such as USB charging, individual air vents and reading lights, and reclining seats. While the new service does mean easier transport between the two cities, some continue to lobby for a light rail system expansion to Boulder and other stops along the highway. Colorado Congressman Jared Polis is a large supporter of this initiative, saying that taxpayers have paid for the expansion, but have yet to receive it. The Flatirons Flyer officially opens on January 17th, 2016.
