Douglas County Schools Protest

On May 20th,over a hundred Douglas County parents and students marched to the School District office in Castle Rock.  They were protesting the placement of Rock Creek Elementary principal Amber Sorg on administrative leave.  The protesters said she was targeted because she had evaluated teachers at her school as high performers.  The “Pay for Performance” model of evaluating teachers came to be in Colorado following the 2010 passage of Senate Bill 191. Critics of “pay for Performance” say it is not effective in determining performance.  They say that outside corporate influence on school district elections, on testing, and on district projects is out of control.
