Denver Runoff Election Results: Mayor Michael Hancock Wins a Third Term

Incumbent Mayor Michael Hancock won a third term beating challenger Jamie Giellis by nearly 12 percent of the vote.

Other incumbents did not fare as well.  In city council results, Candi CdeBaca was leading incumbent councilman Albus Brooks by almost 5 points. The Colorado Independent reports that District 9 in north central Denver has long suffered from disinvestment, and faces gentrification and displacement.

Other incumbents who lost include Mary Beth Susman who will be replaced by Amanda Sawyer, and Wayne New who was defeated by Chris Hinds.

The race for clerk and recorder is very close with Paul Lopez holding a slim lead over Peg Perl. An automatic recount possible in that race.

Initiative 302 won by a wide margin.  Under that measure voters will now have to approve any city spending on future bids to hold the Olympic Games.  The margin of support for the initiative was nearly 4 to 1.
