“It’s a very dangerous moment and people can’t take this election lightly.”
David Barsamian, Executive Producer of Alternative Radio delivers his annual State of the World Address on Monday September 12th at 8pm at the Laughing Goat cafe in Boulder.
Barsamian says that the presentation is timely given the anniversary of September 11th.
“How could we forget September 11th because they’ll never let us forget September 11th, it is the organizing principle of intervention, of surveillance, of ongoing militarization and expansion of bases overseas.”
Misogyny, xenophobia and racism are elements that Barsamian identifies as happening in current American politics. “Right now they’re having their expression in one of the major candidates of the two major political parties…it’s a very dangerous moment and people can’t take this election lightly.”
In addition to domestic politics and the 2016 election, Barsamian will look at what’s happening around the world including the peace agreement in Colombia, Saudia Arabia’s involvement in Yemen and the recent coup in Turkey.
“There’s a huge crackdown in Turkey in the wake of the failed coup attempt of mid-July of this past year and Erdoğan, the President and autocratic ruler of Turkey, is using that failed coup attempt to settle all outstanding issues with his perceived enemies.”
