Combating teen suicide

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth age 10-19, and Colorado’s suicide rate is sixth in the nation – 30-40 percent higher than that of other states.

There are organizations that are working locally to combat this terrible statistic. The Second Wind Fund of Boulder County (SWFBC) is dedicated to the youth in Boulder County and helping to prevent them from following through with suicidal thoughts.

Colie’s Closet is a non-profit peer education organization whose mission is to educate students in Boulder Valley School District about depression and suicide.

Today’s guests are Mary Campbell a member of the Board of the Second Wind Fund of Boulder County, and also a counselor at Peak to Peak, Rebekah Stein with Colie’s Closet and Kristen Keller who got involved with the Second Wind Fund of Boulder County after her own experience with her son who was diagnosed with depression and expressed suicidal thoughts at a young age.
