Combating Childhood Hunger in Summertime

“Nutritious food should be viewed as a basic human right.”

Michelle Ray with Hunger Free Colorado says thousands of children around the state face hunger in the Summer months. These are children who rely on free breakfasts and lunches at school. When school is out for Summer, those children can avail of feeding programs.  Find a free Summer feeding program near you by clicking here or call (855) 855-4626

There are more than 530 sites across the state that offer free feeding programs to children. These are located in safe, open locations like parks and playgrounds and there are often other activities offered in addition to the food, such as the BookCycle, operated by the Longmont public library, which gives out books to children at the feeding program in Longmont’s Kanemoto Park. Free meals are served to children Monday through Friday 11.30am-12.15pm.
