Civic Action Calendar: Week of July 23

It’s time for your Civic Action Calendar, a weekly summary of actions and events hosted by community-based organizations across the Front Range.

Today, July 23rd, Colorado Immigrants Rights Coalition is holding a free online training from 10 am to noon – held over Zoom

Invitees will learn how community leaders can apply immigrant civil liberties protections to their communities after the passing of Colorado law SB25-276. Leaders will also learn how to facilitate mini community monitor training sessions. More information and registration at Colorado immigrant.org/event.

Also today, July 23rd, Together Colorado will be hosting the first online meeting in a series called: Democracy Protection training, from 6pm to 8pm.

This series will focus on empowering communities with people in the know on how to enact change on a local level. Information in this first iteration will expose activists to the county clerk and recorder system in Colorado and why their jobs are important to the functioning of our democracy. This Saturday, July 25th, Indivisible will be hosting many vigils across the state and across the country for two men killed by ICE agents over the last two weeks.

One vigil in South East Denver will take place from 10am to noon at 1700 S Colorado Boulevard.

A vigil in Boulder will be held from 9 to 11am at the intersection of Broadway and Canyon Boulevard. 

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Sebastian Guerrero were both killed by ICE agents at the beginning of this month in Texas and Maine respectively.

Sunday, July 26th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Indivisible will be holding their weekly ICE Out for Good visibility rally in Arvada. 

Protestors will be standing against ICE. That’s at West 80th Ave. & Wadsworth Blvd. in Arvada.

On Monday, July 27th, Aurora Unidos is rallying to demand Denver City Council to end Key Lime Air’s ability to fly out of DIA. Council will be meeting at 4:30 pm at 1437 Bannock street on the 4th floor.

The organizers ask that anyone in attendance willing to speak must sign up prior to the meeting. You can find more information at Aurora unidos CSO.org.

Next Thursday, July 29th, Rocky Mountain Equality will be co-hosting a speaker conference on LGBTQ+ civil liberties from 5 to 6:30 pm located at 3340 Mitchell Lane in Boulder.

Lambda Legal will be taking center stage to talk on recent supreme court rulings, legislative trends, and things on their legal radar that’ll affect our queer community. Information and registration at r-m-equality.org/all events.
